Your Anime Guide for the Month

ANIME! ANIME! ANIME!

Hello everyone, this is your usual anime fan junkie reaching out to all the anime lovers around the world from the mini depths of the Dark Continent (Africa, just kidding) and from a small but beautiful country known as the pearl of Africa!

This time around, News Libre presents an Anime fan’s article which will be a monthly release and we will share and talk about those new catchy anime/ animations you should definitely be giving a try. It has been short and long summer for some and with that said, a lot of new anime from different anime production crews has been released over time with some still ongoing and others already done. The summer has graced us with eye catching, action packed and seemingly good story lines from different writers and artists of all nature.

There is a lot of anime out there and I can’t list them all but, am going to mention a few and maybe they will pickle through your brain cells and give you a reason to try them out.  The anime being mentioned is either still ongoing or probably has already ended with available episodes for you to stream and download when you feel like it from a variety of anime websites.

Now, enough with the chit chat! These are my top 5 anime to watch out for.

gangsta-1

Gangsta

Episodes: 9

Status: Currently Airing

Producers: Manglobe, FUNimation EntertainmentL

Genres: Action, Drama, Seinen

Duration: 25 min. per episode

Rating: R – 17+ (violence & profanity)

Viewer rating: 8/10

Plot summary

The series revolves around two “Handymen” who take on jobs for both the mob and the police force that no one else can handle. The two, named Worick Arcangelo and Nicolas Brown, work in the town of Ergastulum, which is full of mafia, hoodlums, prostitutes, and dirty cops.

Why You Should Watch It

Gangsta as an anime is an action drama which offers a good presentation for a mafia movie gone bad ass. Talk about hand to hand combat, gun fights and most cool thing sword fight scenes too. If you enjoy anime that brings out the violent nature of characters and also presents a steady and fun story that keeps evolving from episode to episode, then you should definitely watch this.

Gangsta doesn’t disappoint and with its current episode, new cool characters have been introduced to the mix. This means more bloodshed and terror for the streets of Ergastulum.

Aoharu x Kikanjuu

Aoharu x Machinegun

Episodes: 12

Status: Currently Airing

Producers: Brains Base, TBS, Sentai Film works

Genres: Action, Comedy, Shounen

Duration: 24 min. per episode

Rating: PG-13 – Teens 13 or older

Viewer rating: 7/10

Plot summary

This funny and hilarious anime revolves around Hotaru a girl mistaken for being a boy by many. She moves into a new apartment where she meets a mysterious man standing nearby the apartment. Hotaru decides to confront the man, who turns out to live in the neighboring apartment. This strange meeting turns into an interesting story that later leaves her involved in a toy gun competition and with her daring need to keep her secret about being a girl from leaking out.

Why You Should Watch It

This anime is actually filled with humor but don’t let that fool you. It also involves one on one gun fight battles which are intense which you will later to get to see once you decide to watch it. This fun filled story starts out like an innocent tale about friendship but later offers some good action and gun battles between teams and characters as they face off in various toy gun competitions across Japan.

20150526_prison00

Prison School

Episodes: 9

Status: Currently Airing

Producers: J.C.Staff, FUNimation Entertainment

Genres: Comedy, Ecchi, Romance, School, Seinen

Duration: 24 min. per episode

Rating: R – 17+ Teens or older

Viewer rating: 8/10

Plot summary

Hachimitsu Academy, one of the strictest girl’s academies in Tokyo, has decided to admit boys into their system. Kiyoshi Fujino is one of these new boys, but he discovers to his shock that he and his four friends—Takehito “Gakuto” Morokuzu, Shingo Wakamoto, Jouji “Joe” Nezu, and Reiji “Andre” Andou are the only male students among 1,000 girls. Even worse are the draconian laws that are still in place, which punishes even the most minor infractions with a stay in the school’s prison. A series of perverted accidents causes the five boys to be “arrested” and receive an ultimatum: either stay a month in the school’s Prison Block or be expelled.

Why You Should Watch It

This anime is what I would describe as a pervert’s dream to success of silliness and stupidity. Not only is Prison School fun and hilarious too, you can’t help it but keep watching it so as to know how the story is going to unravel as the boys put into prison school try to survive the harsh treatment from their superior student council.

Prison School is definitely worth watching though I would warn parents not to let their kids watch it. It may redefine their thinking a bit, I think………..!

God Eater Anime poster pic 00

God Eater

Episodes: 13

Status: Currently Airing

Producers: ufotable, Aniplex of America

Genres: Action, Demons, Fantasy, Supernatural, Military

Duration: 24 min. per episode

Rating: PG-13 – Teens 13 or older

Viewer rating: 8/10

Plot summary

Set in a post-apocalyptic Japan in the year 2071. The world has been mostly destroyed by mysterious monsters known as the Aragami. An organization known as Fenrir was made to exterminate Aragami using ‘God Arcs’, weapons made from Aragami cells. Those who specialize in exterminating Aragami are known as God Eaters. Their God Arcs originally could only keep a single form, however a new type has been discovered that can switch between gun and blade form. Since then, they have been classified new-types and the previous as old-types.

Why You Should Watch It

God Eater does not only offer good visual and character development; it is a gore filled anime with the ability to keep you glued here and there as the human race in its last desperate act tries to save itself from extermination by the Aragami. The fight scenes in God Eater are awesome and so are the Aragami beasts that ravage the land killing everything in their path.

One thing though, I would say this anime has similar feel to Attack On Titan in a few ways just that God Eater is in another timeline. Nevertheless, if you enjoyed Attack on Titan then you will definitely love this one!

Arslan-Senki-Anime-Visual-2

Arslan Senki (The Heroic Legend of Arslan)

Viewer rating: 7/10

Plot summary

In the prosperous kingdom of Pars lies the Royal Capital of Ecbatana, a city of splendor and wonder, ruled by the undefeated and fearsome King Andragoras. Arslan is the young and curious prince of Pars who, despite his best efforts, doesn’t seem to have what it takes to be a proper king like his father.

At the age of 14, Arslan goes to his first battle and loses everything as the blood-soaked mist of war gives way to scorching flames, bringing him to face the demise of his once glorious kingdom. However, it is Arslan’s destiny to be a ruler, and despite the trials that face him, he must now embark on a journey to reclaim his fallen kingdom.

Why You Should Watch It

First, Arslan Senki is epic, second it’s still epic! (LOL) Okay enough with the jokes. Arslan Senki is what you would desire from an anime with Action, Adventure, Drama and Fantasy included. The large battles that Arslan faces are not the only good thing but when you look at the anime as a whole it surely is enjoyable and feels exciting with every new episode.

If that’s not good enough for you to try Arslan Senki then am a terrible writer indeed.….

Well, that’s it for today for this anime filled article with my top 5 anime laid out as above. However, that’s not all here are a few other memorable mentions;

Relationships and Need

How we treat our friends and family is very crucial to our well being both physiologically and physically.

Sarah Tushemereirwe

The people God has surrounded me with are those that have played a crucial role in my life. They’re family, friends and anyone around me.

Proper identity comes from the blessing of our heavenly Father speaking to us through the people He has assigned to give oversight to us.

We normally under look our family, friends and especially the people we stay with and by we, I mean even I. We think that the people who will develop or inspire us are outside the home we live in yet it’s not actually true.

Unfortunately, at work we carry a similar attitude that our workmates don’t get us. We think that the situation would be better if we had different colleagues and therefore, we end up missing the positive outcomes of people around us.

We are so oblivious, that we don’t think the people around us have been predestined by God…

Positive Women in Gaming: Tifa Lockhart

First and foremost I love to take this opportunity to thank Amaltheaelanor (a light that casts away the shadow) and the rest who took part in this wonderful, exciting and engaging project, “Positive Women in Gaming”.

I have been reading quite a number of blogs presented in by many wonderful ladies and gents which left me fascinated beyond doubt. Every single one of them had an exciting aspect about their character and it’s due to that I finally decided to come out of the closet I write this piece.

Thank you! For all those who participated in this project and enlightening so many about the positive influence of female characters in gaming.

For those who wish to participate follow this link

After a deep swim through the life stream, I finally came to a conclusion and chose Tifa Lockhart as one of my favorite, inspiring and courageous female characters in gaming.

In spite of the fact that as a character she was often disliked by some and even blamed for the death of Aerith Gainsborough, and subjectively considered as a whorish figure due to her sexy outfit and figure. This however, I consider as a low blow and shallow form of accusations towards the character.

Aerith’s portrait (Had close relationship with Cloud)

What others say about Tifa Lockhart as a character

“A lot of people think that because she has a big chest means that she is just a sex object. Wrong. She is a complex and beautiful character whose willpower helps Cloud to overcome his enemies and finally lets her show her true feelings for him, after keeping them bottled up since childhood.”

Kenan Alpay

“The strength of a lion and the heart of a dove, she can kick butt and assemble the pieces of the most fragmented mind, both at the same time. Says something about her, doesn’t it?” -Peter H.

“She emotionally pushed the game along, providing many hints, and she was powerful.”

Sean Wheeler

“Despite everything that has happened to her, Tifa was always the strong central link that kept Cloud going. With Sephiroth killing her father, that further made her determined to become strong to eventually face him and help defeat him. Before the destruction of Sector 7, she owned her own business (the bar), which isn’t an easy venture. She is an accomplished martial artist studying under Master Zangan. So if anyone ever says that Tifa is a weak character, they should really play Final Fantasy VII and realize just how strong she truly is.”

Galen Henderson

“Tifa is my favorite female character because of the inner struggle that she has to face – her secret childhood love for Cloud versus the reality that she knows Cloud has been lying about his past. Should she allow her affection for Cloud to convince her that her memory is failing her? Or should she openly challenge her love, thereby taking the risk that she might lose him for a variety of reasons? The fact that she supported Cloud 110% throughout the quest and took care of him when he was mentally crippled adds to the list of reasons why I like her so much. Of course, having cute looks can’t hurt either.”

Rick Leung

Anyway, back to the topic at hand………………..

Tifa Lockhart

“Bright and optimistic, Tifa always cheers up the others when they’re down. But don’t let her looks fool you; she can decimate almost any enemy with her fists…”

Character Profile

Birthplace: Nibelheim

Weapon: Glove

First Person Pronoun: 私 [Watashi]

Character History

Tifa Lockhart is one of the three female protagonists that first appeared in Squaresoft’s Final Fantasy VII. A bartender, a skilled martial artist and a major character in the game’s story line, having grown up in the same town as the main protagonist Cloud Strife. She has also appeared in numerous other games and productions set within the universe of Final Fantasy VII.

Tifa was born in the small town of Nibelheim, and she lived right next door to Cloud Strife. They were not close friends during that time, but they knew each other. Cloud had always admired her from a distance, and Tifa had always admired Cloud as well, though she is reluctant to admit it.

“Tifa’s personality is kind and nurturing”

Tifa Lockhart is one of the main protagonists of the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII. A childhood friend of Cloud Strife, she is instrumental in getting him to join AVALANCHE and reconstructing his memories. Tifa’s personality is kind and nurturing, but her shyness is what keeps her from truly opening up to Cloud.

Tifa is also featured in the prequel games Before Crisis: Final Fantasy VII and Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII, as well as the OVA Last Order: Final Fantasy VII. In each, her appearance relates to Nibelheim’s destruction. The novella “Case of Tifa”, written as part of the On the Way to a Smile series, is a story set between the original game and Advent Children. Told from her point of view, the story details how she creates a new 7th Heaven bar in the city of Edge, and attempts to hold onto the concept of a normal family with herself and Cloud, despite him beginning to isolate himself from others.

Tifa also appears briefly in the game Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII, set one year after the events of Advent Children in which she helps the protagonist Vincent Valentine defend the Planet against Omega WEAPON. She later appears in the game’s epilogue, discussing Vincent’s apparent disappearance.

Other appearances

Tifa appears in the fighting game Ehrgeiz, as an unlockable character and an optional boss, electronic board games Itadaki Street Special and Itadaki Street Portable, Kingdom Hearts II, Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy, which features characters from various Final Fantasy games.

In Little Big Planet 2, Tifa is featured as a downloadable character model.

(Information as collected from various sources)

My personal perspective

The first time I laid my eyes on Tifa Lockhart was in Final Fantasy Advent Children among the best animations I have watched with great CGI effects and visuals. Tifa does not only remind me of someone so dear but she also presents a true picture of a caring friend that you can always trust.

Tifa is a strong, independent and attractive female character that bares strengths and weakness all round. These help to shape her character even the more offering a clear relationship between fictional to a realistic human perspective.

Why choose Tifa Lockhart as a positive woman in gaming

Tifa is a magnificent representation of a mothers love

This can be seen in Advent Children where she and Cloud come up with an idea of opening up a kids orphanage for those struck with Geo-stigma, a mysterious disease that was killing off the population. This act is a direct representation of a mother’s care and strength and lands her a place in that category.

“Bright and optimistic, Tifa always cheers up the others when they’re down”

The kids Tifa and Cloud looked after at their shelter

ACC_Denzel_1

Strong will and ability to fight

Don’t let her looks fool you; she can decimate almost any enemy with her fists. Tifa possesses a fine set of martial arts skills coupled with her fast and agile approach towards enemy targets. With her gloves intact, she is capable of bringing her enemies down with quick step movements.

One can defend this character basing on her fight with Loz at a church in Advent Children, where she displays her strong will to protect those dear to her including her fight against a summoned beast called Bahamut SIN.

Tifa protects Denzel from Bahamut SIN

Her character has a close relationship with human concept

Her relationship with Cloud presents a common aspect that occurs within our community on a daily basis. Two close friends from childhood and yet they still have not fully shown their emotions to another. Though a number of Final Fantasy fans claim this relationship as a flaw to her character, to me this is a good way to show off one’s soft touches in things like emotion, love and how they react towards another character. All these create an whole round personality which is a positive aspect when trying to communicate to an audience.

Memorable quotes from Tifa Lockhart

tifa 1

A memory is something that is consciously recalled, right? That’s why sometimes; it can be mistaken or wrong. It’s different from a memory locked deep within your heart.” (FFVII)

Words aren’t the only way to tell someone how you feel.” (to Cloud – FFVII)

Which is it? A memory or us?” (to Cloud – Advent Children)

Conclusion

I for one find this character a standing model to great women in gaming history, even though considered as clingy to Cloud Strife, one should also consider the fact that despite all what happened to her as a character. She has managed to maintain a strong will of self-independence with her calm, cheerful and caring personality, she offers a sense of warmth and happiness to other characters in the game.

Her beauty and dark long hair with a set of gloves ready to punch a hole through anything and with her graceful martial art techniques she is surely a top notch bargain.

Thank you again Amaltheaelanor for coming up with such an wonderful idea and all those who took part in the project. All those who took time to read this blog Arigato!!

My best gun anime ever!

ANIME! ANIME! ANIME!

Hello everyone! It’s nice to be writing again and this time around, my blog is about my favorite gun anime. In this article, I will be sharing about gun anime that made the top list for my favorite shoot them up anime.

What do I mean by gun anime? Well there are a lot of anime out there with gun themes in them and they fit the criteria for this blog but emphasis was put more on anime that rotates around guns and their constant use throughout the storyline. However, quite a number would make this list for gun anime but I chose the ones that picked my interest.

Now, I present my top gun anime list. Enjoy the ride!

Black Lagoon

black lagoon

Plot summary

The story follows a team of pirate mercenaries known as Lagoon Company, which smuggles goods in and around the seas of Southeast Asia in the early to mid-1990s. Their base of operations is located in the fictional harbor city of Roanapur in southeast Thailand. The island is home to the Yakuza, the Triad, Cuban and French cartels, and a wide assortment of pickpockets, thugs, mercenaries, thieves, prostitutes, assassins, and Gunmen of all sorts.

The team takes on a variety of missions—which may involve violent firefights, hand-to-hand combat, and nautical battles—in various Southeast Asian locations, even going as far as Phu Quoc island of Vietnam and when not doing much, the members of the Lagoon Company spend much of their down time at The Yellow Flag, a bar in Roanapur which is often destroyed in firefights.

My thoughts about it

Not only is Black Lagoon fun to watch, it offers an exciting tale filled with gun battles and good characterization with some pretty interesting characters introduced in the story as it goes on. It’s definitely a must watch for gun anime lovers.

Jormungand

jormungand2

Plot summary

The series follows Koko Hekmatyar, a young arms dealer who sells weapons under HCLI, an international shipping corporation and illegal smuggling operation. As one of the company’s unofficial weapon dealers, she sells weapons in a variety of countries while avoiding both local and international authorities. Traveling with her is a team of bodyguards, mostly composed of former soldiers. Her latest addition to her crew is Jonah, an inexpressive and deadly child soldier who hates arms dealers.

My thoughts about it

This anime does not only offer a crazy and action filled story but what intrigued me the most were the character developments which presented an interesting view. For example Koko the young arms dealer who is crazy and hell bent on bringing a new world order. From the same team that brought Black Lagoon, Jormungand is worth your time and it is definitely a good gun anime.

Madlax

madlax1a

Plot summary

The first half of the series alternates between the two leads. Madlax is one of the most efficient special ops agents for hire in the war-torn Gazth-Sonika, while Margaret Burton is a sleepy, clumsy amnesiac living in Nafrece, a country styled after France. When a “picture book”, presumably given to Margaret by her late father, attracts the attention of international criminal network Enfant, she discovers that the origins of the book lie in Gazth-Sonika. Enfant’s top operative, Carrossea Doon, tracks Margaret down but tips off his superiors in the wrong direction, towards Madlax, who has been causing Enfant trouble for some time.

My thoughts about it

Talk of a story so deep it almost left me confused half way through. That’s not a bad thing actually; Madlax presents a compelling and well-built story the goes deeper with each episode. Not forgetting the gun battle battles, a war torn country with a dark past, Madlax was very enjoyable gun anime.

Gunslinger Girl

gunslinger_girl_02

Plot summary

Set in Italy, Gunslinger Girl follows the exploits of the Social Welfare Agency (often referred to as simply “the Agency”), ostensibly a charitable institution sponsored by the Italian government. While the Agency professes to aid the rehabilitation of the physically injured, it is actually a military organization specializing in counter-intelligence and counter-terrorism.

The agency employs young girls who have experienced traumatic and near-death experiences fitted with cybernetic implants as agents. The implants, which consist of synthesized muscles and carbon fiber frames, result in heightened strength and reflexes as well as high resilience to damage and pain.

My thoughts about it

A very touching, visually impressive and sad story; Gunslinger Girl as a gun anime is what I would describe as a beautiful memento that left me emotionally incapacitated. The tales told in this gun anime by the teenage girls trained as agents is compelling. Apart from that, it also offers some realistic gun battles in and out of the series. Gunslinger Girl is among my favorite of gun animes.

Hellsing Ultimate

Hellsing_OVA_10_variant

Plot summary

Hellsing is named after and centered on the Royal Order of Protestant Knights, originally led by Abraham Van Helsing. The mission of Hellsing is to search for and destroy the undead and other supernatural forces of evil that threaten the queen and the country. This organization is currently led by Sir Integra Fairbrook Wingates Hellsing, who inherited the leadership of Hellsing as a child after the death of her father. She witnessed his death which turned her from a once innocent and shy little girl to a tough and deadly force. She is protected by the faithful Hellsing family butler and former Hellsing “trashman” Walter C. Dornez, a deadly foe in his own right, and Alucard, the original and most powerful vampire that swore loyalty to the Hellsing family after being defeated by Van Helsing one hundred years before the story takes place. These formidable guardians are joined early on in the storyline by former police officer Seras Victoria, whom Alucard turned into a vampire.

My thoughts about it

When you talk about blood and gore, intense boss fights, insane powerful villains adding on a powerful and captivating story. Hellsing is awesome in every right and those that have managed to watch it have a few tales to tell. Guns are must in this anime, from bizarre weapon upgrades to horrific and destructive power. Hellsing is among those good gun anime.

Canaan

canaan

Plot summary

Two years after the events of 428: Fūsa Sareta Shibuya de, Maria Ōsawa and Minoru Minorikawa are dispatched as reporters to Shanghai in order to cover the upcoming Shanghai NBCR International Anti-Terrorist Conference. Prior to their current assignment, both Maria and Minoru were survivors of the Shibuya bio-terrorism incident, where Maria was kidnapped by terrorists and was infected by the Ua virus but was cured by her scientist father using an experimental anti-Ua virus vaccine. On her first day in Shanghai, Maria is targeted by masked assassins but saved by a Middle Eastern girl named Canaan, whom she befriended in the Middle East prior to the events of 428: Fūsa Sareta Shibuya de and her Shanghai trip.

My thoughts about it

Canaan is not just about gun battles, but it also gives a good example of todays’ world problems. A viral outbreak initiated by powerful governments’ that nearly wipes out a village and not forgetting the conspiracy feel brought into the anime. Canaan is interesting as more plot twists in mixed into the story. Nevertheless, Canaan is worth being put in the likes of gun anime with its visually beautiful gun battles.

Phantom- Requiem of Phantom

Phantom_Requiem_for_the_Phantom_DVD_Cover

Plot summary

Mafia is rife in America where assassinations are a regular occurrence on the streets. Inferno, a mysterious company, is behind most of these dealings through the use of their near-invincible human weapon, “Phantom.”

One day, a Japanese tourist accidentally witnesses Phantom’s latest murder. Desperate to escape, the tourist hides in a secluded building. However, Phantom, revealed to be a young woman named Ein, and the leader of Inferno “Scythe Master” captures the tourist and brainwashes him. Given the name “Zwei,” this once peaceful tourist is now a puppet of Inferno with no memories. Drawn into a world of lies, deceit, and violence, Zwei must fight to survive, hopefully to one day regain his memories and escape from this world where he is constantly on the brink of death.

My thoughts about it

Phantom as an anime brings forward a world full of violence, betrayal, deceit, and it keeps you glued with every episode. Killing is just a normal aspect of nature since characters have the ability to bring death once they feel threatened and corned. A love story is also portrayed between the main two characters of the story even with their forgotten past; they manage to fall in love with one another during their missions and adventures.

Phantom- Requiem of Phantom is an interesting gun anime that mixes drama, action and a fictional story all together to offer an enjoyable anime.

With that said, this concludes my thoughts about gun anime and am sure there are quite many others out there I have missed out on but nevertheless, this marks the end to this article.

Thanks for reading and I hope to hear your views about that giun-anime that caught your eye.
